Integrative Bioinformatics

Ferran Sanz.
Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) Hospital del Mar Research Institute (IMIM) Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Barcelona.

Personalized medicine requires taking advantage of all the ‘omics information, with a particular focus on the evidences of genotype-phenotype associations resulting from biomedical research. Taking into account the huge amount of information on the matter that is stored in electronic resources or buried in the scientific literature, there is a need of computational strategies and tools that facilitate the seeking, filtering and prioritization of this information, its annotation and curation, its integrative analysis, and its visualization in formats that are useful and user-friendly for the clinical researchers and practitioners.
The DisGeNET resource on gene-disease associations will be presented (http://www.disgenet.org), as well as its application to the study of the COPD comorbidities.
